Job summary

Curtin Maritime is seeking a Mate based in Long Beach, CA. The role requires leadership, navigation expertise, and strong mentoring skills to support the Captain in vessel operations and management. The Mate position spans levels I–III with increasing responsibility.

Qualifications

• Minimum 200 GRT Master of Towing Vessels Near Coastal or 500 GRT Mate Near Coastal with TOAR required
• Passport and VSO credentials required
• Proficiency in inland and coastwise towing plus higher-level navigation

Responsibilities

• Assist the Captain and mentor crew in procedures.
• Contribute to voyage planning and execution for efficiency and safety.
• Manage crew and vessel maintenance, ensuring compliance.
• Train and develop crew in Curtin's procedures and systems; foster morale.
• Maintain records and reports in the Vessel Management System (VMS).
