Job summary

Sentara Health is seeking a Trauma Registrar to collect, abstract, code, validate, and maintain trauma data for all eligible patients. This role supports NTDB, TQIP, and state registry submissions and contributes to performance improvement and research initiatives.

The position requires coding proficiency (AIS, ICD-10, CPT), HIPAA compliance, and ability to work with physicians, nurses, EMS, and quality staff. Remote work is available across listed states with full benefits.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Associates' and/or Bachelor's in HIM or healthcare-related field preferred.
• Completion of ATS Trauma Registry Course within 12 months of hire.
• Completion of AAAM AIS Coding Course within 12 months of hire.
• Completion of ICD-10 trauma course within 12 months of hire and refresher every 5 years.

Responsibilities

• Identify trauma patients who meet inclusion criteria.
• Abstract clinical and demographic data from EMR, EMS, and provider docs.
• Code injuries using AIS and assign ICD-10 and CPT codes as appropriate.
• Enter abstracted data into trauma registry software within required timeframes.
• Validate data accuracy and compliance with ACS, NTDB, and state standards.
• Support trauma program improvement, accreditation, and research efforts.
