Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead our small tax department. This role is ideal for a proactive professional who thrives in a collaborative, client-focused environment and values flexibility and autonomy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and sign federal and state tax returns for individuals and businesses, ensuring accuracy and compliance with deadlines.
  • Develop and implement tax strategies to maximize client compliance and minimize liabilities.
  • Identify tax issues and provide innovative solutions.
  • Manage and respond to tax authority inquiries, including preparing audit schedules as needed (although rare).
  • Stay current on changes in tax legislation and communicate updates to the team and clients.
  • Supervise, mentor, and review the work of tax team members to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Work with overseas staff to prepare returns and maintain quality.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor.
  • Be the final signer on tax returns.
  • Communicate complex tax matters clearly to clients, including through Loom video walkthroughs and virtual meetings (Zoom/phone). In person meetings will not be required and are very rare.

Qualifications

  • CPA certification required.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of relevant tax experience in public accounting and small business accounting.
  • Deep knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code, tax laws, and regulations, with strong research skills.
  • Proven leadership and supervisory experience.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical skills and sound professional judgment.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and prioritize tasks.
  • Comfortable with technology and remote communication tools.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Competitive salary range of $95,000-$115,000, depending on experience, plus an annual bonus
  • Fully remote position—work from anywhere with flexible hours
