Job summary

Ampirical is hiring a Power Commissioning Engineer II to lead substation commissioning efforts in a remote role with travel across the U.S. You will develop commissioning plans, create relay settings, perform field testing, and verify protection systems.

You will work with engineers, utilities, and field staff to ensure safety, accuracy, and compliance with industry standards. Travel is regional or national, with a strong emphasis on hands‑on testing.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree or equivalent with testing/commissioning experience
• Associate degree with relevant experience (substation/power systems)
• Military electrical training with extensive commissioning experience
• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass screenings
• No travel restrictions and safety‑focused mindset
• NICET Level I (Power Testing) or higher (preferred)
• Ability to obtain TWIC card (as needed)

Responsibilities

• Develop commissioning plans for substation projects, including P&C components.
• Create relay settings files for SEL, GE, Basler relays.
• Perform testing and commissioning on substation equipment.
• Test insulation resistance, power factor, winding resistance, and SFRA.
• Verify protection relay functionality and SCADA I/O.
• Review drawings and one-line diagrams; operate test equipment.
• Travel regionally or nationally for field work.
