Job summary

Ampirical in the Dallas area is seeking a Testing & Commissioning Technician to support acceptance testing, maintenance, and commissioning of high‑voltage substation equipment. You will travel to project sites, work hands-on with breakers, transformers, protective relays, SCADA systems, and other high‑voltage apparatus while staying committed to safety in energized utility environments.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years in testing and commissioning substations.
• NICET II or higher certification required.
• Valid driver's license and ability to pass screenings.
• Ability to travel 50–75% regionally/nationally.

Responsibilities

• Perform testing and commissioning on circuit breakers, power transformers, CTs/PTs, switches, bus systems, and protective relays.
• Conduct insulation resistance, contact resistance, power factor (Doble), TTR, winding resistance tests.
• Troubleshoot relay misoperations and equipment failures.
• Interpret and verify one-line diagrams, protection logic, wiring schematics, and as-built drawings.
• Operate Megger, Doble, Vanguard, Omicron and related tools; maintain test reports.
