This fully remote role allows you to contribute from anywhere within South Africa, focusing on the structural design and analysis of diverse building projects to ensure safety and code compliance.

You will collaborate with architects and engineers in a virtual environment, prepare drawings and calculations using ETABS, SAP2000, STAAD.Pro or Revit

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Structural Engineering or related discipline.
• PE/Pr Eng registration with ECSA preferred.
• At least 6 years of professional experience in structural design of buildings.
• Proficiency in ETABS, SAP2000, STAAD.Pro, Revit Structure or similar.
• Knowledge of seismic design and international codes.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client is expanding its remote engineering capabilities and is seeking a talented Remote Structural Design Engineer specializing in building systems. This role is entirely remote, allowing you to contribute your expertise from anywhere within South Africa . You will be responsible for the structural design and analysis of various building projects, ensuring safety, stability, and compliance with all relevant building codes and standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong analytical mind, proficiency in structural analysis software, and excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with remote teams and clients. Key Responsibilities

Design and analyze structural elements for buildings, including foundations, beams, columns, and slabs. Develop structural drawings, calculations, and specifications using relevant software. Ensure designs meet all national and international building codes, standards (e.g., SANS, Eurocodes), and project-specific requirements. Collaborate closely with architects, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and other stakeholders in a virtual environment. Perform structural assessments and provide recommendations for existing structures. Conduct site visits remotely or liaise with local representatives for site-specific information when required. Prepare detailed reports on structural analysis and design findings. Stay current with advancements in structural engineering software and design techniques. Manage project timelines and deliverables effectively in a remote work setting. Provide technical support to construction teams during the building process.

Requirements

A Master's degree in Structural Engineering or a related discipline. Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr Tech Eng) registration with ECSA is highly preferred. A minimum of 6 years of professional experience in structural design of buildings. Proficiency in structural analysis and design software such as ETABS, SAP2000, STAAD.Pro, Revit Structure, or similar. Thorough understanding of building materials (steel, concrete, timber, masonry) and their behavior. Knowledge of seismic design principles and international building codes. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills, adapted for remote collaboration. Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines in a remote setup. Demonstrated experience in collaborating within a virtual team environment.
