Job summary

The Nature Conservancy seeks a Finance Director to lead strategic financial planning and reporting for Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia, while guiding the broader pod and collaborating with conservation, philanthropy, and operations leadership.

The role emphasizes fiscal stewardship, internal controls, and not‑for‑profit accounting, with travel up to 15% and a mix of remote/hybrid work. A strong leadership background in finance is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 7 years related work experience.
• Experience with Excel and financial reporting systems; GAAP and not-for-profit accounting.
• Experience recruiting, supervising and developing staff; advising senior executives.
• Experience with federal grants, government regulations, contracts, and restricted funding sources.

Responsibilities

• Lead budgeting, forecasting, long-range financial planning, reporting, and year-end activities.
• Deliver high-quality financial reporting, complex analysis, and scenario modeling for decision-making.
• Identify risks/opportunities, optimize resource allocation, and enhance financial performance.
• Coordinate finance services across pods and partner with business unit leadership.
• Coach and develop finance staff; participate in leadership team and governance activities.
• Ensure internal controls, donor compliance, regulatory standards, and audit readiness.
• Provide financial guidance for fundraising, grants, contracts, and strategic projects.
