Job summary

Syllo is building a world-class litigation platform with a focus on scalable search, indexing, and data scanning infrastructure. The Staff Software Engineer will own the retrieval stack, tackle multi-petabyte data challenges, and drive architectural decisions for fast, cost-efficient access across hot and cold data layers.

You will lead design and implementation for distributed pipelines, vector search, and high-throughput processing in a remote United States environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering at Staff/Principal level with petabyte-scale data experience.
• Expertise tuning Lucene-based search engines (Elasticsearch, Solr) and vector indexing.
• Astute in compute vs. storage trade-offs and cold-storage scanning solutions.
• Experience with distributed data pipelines and high-throughput event streaming (Kafka/Kinesis).
• Proficient in Go, Rust, Python, or Java/C++.

Responsibilities

• Scale the retrieval stack, optimize lexical and dense vector search performance.
• Design cost-effective data tiering for hot, warm, and cold data states.
• Reduce latency and cloud cost through deep system analysis and tuning.
• Lead on indexing and search architecture, setting long-term technical direction.
• Ensure fault-tolerant operations during massive ingest and concurrent queries.
