Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Staff Engineer for the FinHub - Ledger team within the Platform group to own the architectural direction of core ledgering systems processing billions of transactions. You will drive platform improvements, set architectural standards, and lead cross-functional projects ensuring accuracy and reliability at scale.

The role requires deep backend expertise, hands-on work with Go, Kubernetes, and PostgreSQL, and a track record mentoring engineers while aligning technical

Qualifications

• 8+ years building and operating large-scale distributed systems in production.
• Hands-on experience with backend programming languages such as Go, Python, Java.
• Experience with ledgering, trading systems, or high-precision transaction processing.
• Leadership in cross-functional technical initiatives and mentoring engineers.
• Experience with Go, Kubernetes, and PostgreSQL; ability to foresee scaling bottlenecks.
• Uses generative AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflows.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build foundational backend systems focusing on performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Drive strategic technical direction for cross-team initiatives spanning engineering, product, and finance.
• Establish and evolve platform best practices and architectural standards.
• Provide deep technical mentorship and guide design decisions across the team.
• Shape the technical roadmap by identifying high-leverage investments and scaling bottlenecks.
• Embed AI into engineering and operational practices to improve efficiency and quality.
