Job summary

The UCLA Voting Rights Project seeks an experienced staff attorney to lead litigation on California redistricting and voting policies, collaborating with data scientists to track plans and develop a robust docket.

You will draft pleadings, coordinate briefs, mentor students and fellows, and engage in public education, advocacy, and fundraising activities to advance democratic participation statewide.

Qualifications

• At least 4 years of heavy litigation experience in state courts of California.
• First or second chair trial experience of at least 5 contested matters.
• Experience drafting and e-filing state court pleadings in California.
• Experience working with clients, co-counsel and support staff on vigorous litigation.
• Interest in civil rights or voting rights causes is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Build a centralized data/mapping resource with VRP data scientists for redistricting and election policies.
• Investigate, initiate, litigate, try and appeal voting rights cases in California state courts.
• Draft and coordinate amicus briefs and prepare testimony before government bodies.
• Develop and deliver statewide trainings for attorneys, advocates, students, and community partners.
• Support fundraising and grant proposal activities.
