Aston Carter invites applications for a Staff Accountant role that is fully remote, based out of Schaumburg, IL. The candidate will support general accounting, month-end close, and AP activities with an emphasis on broader accounting responsibilities rather than transactional processing.

The ideal candidate should have a strong accounting foundation, be able to work independently, and understand how transactions flow through the trial balance into financial statements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
• 22+ years of experience as a Staff Accountant or similar role.
• Hands-on experience preparing and posting journal entries and month-end close.
• Strong GAAP knowledge and close-process understanding.
• Experience with ERP systems and COUPA.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, amortization, reclassifications, and close entries.
• Record and analyze month-end accruals and ensure accurate expense recognition.
• Prepare prepaid amortization schedules and reclassifications for close.
• Complete detailed account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
• Review invoices, contracts, leases, and GAAP-compliant treatment.
• Support month-end/quarter-end close and financial reporting.
• Analyze trial balances and provide variance explanations.
• Research unusual balances and document root causes for audits.
• Ensure proper GL coding and AP reflection in financials.
• Assist with financial statement prep and audit requests.
• Contribute to SOX controls and process improvements.
• Navigate ERP systems and COUPA for cross-functional work.
