Job summary

ARU, a growing specialty insurance services company, seeks a Staff Accountant to support accurate, timely accounting operations and financial reporting in a collaborative remote environment. You will prepare journal entries, reconcile accounts, support month-end close, process payables/receivables, and assist audits while learning ARU's systems like Sage Intacct, Bill.com, and Google Workspace.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field with sufficient coursework.
• 1–3 years of accounting experience; a strong internship may count.
• Working knowledge of GAAP, GL accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements.
• Proficiency with spreadsheets and learning new financial systems quickly.
• Attention to detail, discretion with confidential information.
• Ability to meet close and payment deadlines and adapt priorities.
• Strong written and verbal communication; service-oriented.
• Comfort working in ARU's collaborative remote environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare routine journal entries, accruals, schedules, and supporting documentation.
• Complete reconciliations for bank, credit card, balance sheet, and GL; research discrepancies and propose corrections.
• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close with deadlines and proper workpapers.
• Maintain cash receipts and cash flow registers; assist with variance analysis and provide details to Accounting leadership.
• Process accounts payable/receivable per ARU procedures; support insurance billing and broker commissions.
• Respond to internal and external inquiries; coordinate with Underwriting and business partners to resolve discrepancies.
• Assist with monthly/quarterly/annual financial reports and external audits; support Forms 1099 and statutory activities.
• Identify opportunities to improve accuracy, strengthen controls, reduce manual work, and streamline workflows.
• Support system implementations, testing, conversions, and special projects.
