Job summary

Databento is hiring a midlevel to senior Site Reliability Engineer to own uptime, performance, and observability of our data platform. You will shape reliability standards, lead on-call responses, and drive high-availability deployment strategies for petabyte-scale data systems.

You’ll work with Python services, containerized deployments, and modern observability stacks. A strong track record in performance tuning, incident response, and remote collaboration is expected.

Qualifications

• Proven SRE/DevOps or backend engineering experience in fast-growing environments.
• Hands-on experience with logging, metrics, and tracing tooling.
• Experience with container orchestration and high-availability deployment.
• Strong Python development and performance optimization skills.
• Proficiency with Linux debugging and profiling tools (strace, perf, eBPF, gdb).
• Track record of measurable impact and incident-response excellence.
• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/Ansible) is a plus.
• Experience with HTTP benchmarking, load testing, and capacity planning is valued.
• Excellent communication, especially in remote teams.

Responsibilities

• Own uptime, SLAs, and SLOs for API and platform services.
• Set reliability best practices without slowing engineers.
• Build observability across logging, metrics, and tracing.
• Design and run high-availability deployment and containerization strategies.
• Profile and optimize Python applications for throughput and latency.
• Debug production issues down to OS level with advanced tools.
• Improve deployment and CI/CD workflows.
• Join on-call rotation and lead incident reviews.
• Drive projects from idea to completion independently.
