Job summary

Marsh McLennan Agency (MMA) is hiring a Database Administrator in Towson, MD to build, operate, and secure SQL Server platforms with Azure-hosted workloads. You will manage backup/recovery, performance tuning, and DR across production and non-production environments.

Required hands-on SQL Server, T-SQL, and Azure experience, plus strong collaboration with security and infrastructure teams. The role emphasizes reliability, data protection, and on-call support with a strong emphasis on automation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent practical experience

Responsibilities

• Administer and support Microsoft SQL Server platforms across non-production and production environments.
• Provision, configure, and manage SQL Server on Azure IaaS VMs with storage/layout optimization.
• Implement and operate HA/DR solutions (Always On, Windows Failover Clustering, multi-region DR).
• Own backup, restore, and recovery strategies with validation restores and defined RTO/RPO.
• Perform performance tuning, index/ statistics maintenance, and query optimization.
• Establish security controls and encryption, auditing, and secrets management.
• Coordinate patching and upgrades for SQL Server and Windows OS with minimal downtime.
• Support deployments by coordinating DB changes and incident response.
• Build automation using PowerShell, T-SQL, and Azure-native runbooks.
• Maintain runbooks, SOPs, and architecture diagrams for operations.
