Five and Fly is hiring a Software Engineer - Public Sector to shape AI infrastructure for federal and defense workloads. You will own the tech vision, drive scalable, secure data pipelines, and write production code that sustains mission-critical workloads.

The role requires 5–9 years' government software experience, active SECRET clearance, and deep Python + distributed systems expertise across AWS/Azure/GCP. Remote work option supports nationwide collaboration.

Qualifications

• 5–9 years building software for US government or DoD networks.
• Active SECRET clearance; TS/SCI preferred.
• Deep expertise in Python, distributed architectures, and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Experience leading mission-critical initiatives and mentoring engineers.
• Strong focus on performance, reliability, and secure, compliant design.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% and support national missions.
• Experience with AI/ML systems, unstructured data, or real-time pipelines is a plus.
• Familiarity with FedRAMP, IL5, or other compliance frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical vision for high‑impact federal and public sector data pipelines.
• Drive architectural strategies emphasizing scale, performance, and security compliance.
• Write production‑ready code and lead projects supporting mission‑critical workloads.
• Solve challenges like data orchestration at scale and AI‑first infrastructure for sensitive workloads.
• Align engineering, product, and go‑to‑market teams to meet public sector requirements.
• Guide architectural decisions balancing innovation with risk mitigation.
