Job summary

UnitedHealth Group’s Optum Technology is seeking a Software Engineer to design, develop, test, and deploy software applications in an Agile team. You’ll work on cloud infrastructure, distributed streaming architectures, and containerized deployments using Python, Golang, Kafka, Kubernetes, GCP, and Terraform to power enterprise healthcare apps.

You’ll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute from anywhere in the U.S.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional experience in software engineering
• 3+ years of experience with Kafka, Kubernetes (K8s), GCP (Google Cloud Platform), and Terraform
• 2+ years of experience with software design, development, and integration
• 2+ years of experience working in an Agile development environment (Scrum or Kanban)
• 2+ years of experience with version control systems (e.g., Git)

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve software applications and services in an Agile team environment
• Write clean, well-structured, maintainable, and efficient code adhering to software engineering best practices
• Participate in code reviews, design sessions, sprint planning, and retrospectives to ensure high-quality software delivery
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve application bugs, performance bottlenecks, and system issues
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate application deployments
• Ensure application security, scalability, and adherence to enterprise standards
• Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered solutions and platform automations to address complex business challenges with responsible AI practices
• Use enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows and drive continuous improvement
• Evaluate emerging technology trends to inform solution design and strategic innovation
