Job summary

Upstart is seeking a Software Engineer on the Site Reliability Engineering team to build and operate systems that improve reliability, resiliency, and observability in production.

You will work across observability platforms, tooling, incident response, and automation, delivering well-scoped projects and contributing to technical design. This role emphasizes using AI to enhance development and operations, with collaboration across multiple teams.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional experience in software engineering, site reliability engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Strong software development skills in Python, Go, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
• Experience designing, building, testing, and operating production software, internal tooling, or infrastructure.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, observability, monitoring, or production operations.
• Experience participating in on call or incident response for production systems.
• Demonstrated ability to independently deliver well scoped engineering projects and collaborate across teams.
• Demonstrated experience using AI assisted development tools across the software lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Build and improve tooling, services, and automation to understand and improve reliability of production systems.
• Develop shared observability capabilities for metrics, logs, traces, and service health.
• Improve incident response and operational readiness through better tooling and automation.
• Build resiliency capabilities to identify failure modes and reduce operational risk.
• Identify recurring toil and replace manual processes with durable software and automation.
• Apply AI as an integrated part of software development and operations to improve efficiency.
