Job summary

CAI is seeking a Server Engineer Intern to help configure, deploy, and support server environments for custom business applications. You will gain hands-on experience with server infrastructure, troubleshooting, automation, and cloud technologies while developing practical IT operations skills. The internship runs June 7, 2027 through August 6, 2027, fully remote, 40 hours per week.

Core business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET, and all work must be performed within the United States.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
• Current Junior with a 3.5 GPA or higher
• Analytical mindset with strong troubleshooting abilities
• Basic understanding of server operating systems, including Windows Server and Linux
• Familiarity with networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls)
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
• Ability to write technical documentation clearly
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications
• Willingness to learn infrastructure and operations concepts
• Preferred: scripting in PowerShell, Bash, or Python
• Preferred: virtualization concepts (VMware, Hyper-V)
• Preferred: cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP)
• Preferred: configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
• Preferred: relational databases and monitoring/log analysis

Responsibilities

• Assist in configuring, deploying, and supporting server environments that host custom-developed business applications
• Support the setup and maintenance of development, test, staging, and production environments
• Help monitor server health, performance, and availability and assist in identifying and resolving issues
• Assist with patching, updates, and routine maintenance of operating systems and server infrastructure
• Support configuration of networking, storage, and security settings within hosted environments
• Help troubleshoot environment-related issues in coordination with development teams
• Assist in documenting server configurations, SOPs, and environment architecture
• Support automation efforts to streamline provisioning, configuration, and deployment tasks
• Participate in capacity planning and basic performance tuning activities
• Collaborate with software development teams to understand hosting requirements
• Assist with backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity procedures
