Job summary

CAI is seeking a Server Engineer Intern to help configure, deploy, and support server environments that host custom-developed business applications. This fully remote, full-time internship runs June 7, 2027 through August 6, 2027, requiring 40 hours per week and availability during core hours ET.

You will gain hands-on experience in server infrastructure, troubleshooting, automation, and cloud technologies while building valuable technical skills.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
• Current Junior with a 3.5 GPA or higher
• Analytical mindset with strong troubleshooting abilities
• Basic understanding of server operating systems, including Windows Server and Linux
• Familiarity with networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and firewalls
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
• Ability to write technical documentation in a clear and concise manner
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications
• Willingness to learn infrastructure and operations concepts
• Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python
• Basic understanding of virtualization concepts such as VMware, Hyper-V, or similar technologies
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP
• Exposure to configuration management or automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef
• Basic understanding of relational databases and how they are hosted and supported
• Familiarity with monitoring tools and log analysis

Responsibilities

• Assist in configuring, deploying, and supporting server environments that host custom-developed business applications
• Support the setup and maintenance of development, test, staging, and production environments
• Help monitor server health, performance, and availability and assist in identifying and resolving issues
• Assist with patching, updates, and routine maintenance of operating systems and server infrastructure
• Support configuration of networking, storage, and security settings within hosted environments
• Help troubleshoot environment-related issues in coordination with development teams
• Assist in documenting server configurations, standard operating procedures, and environment architecture
• Support automation efforts to streamline provisioning, configuration, and deployment tasks
• Participate in capacity planning and basic performance tuning activities
• Collaborate with software development teams to understand application hosting requirements
• Assist with backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity procedures
