Job description

About the Role

This role is for a Senior Engineer with a strong background in quality, to play a key role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and usability of our software. This is a hands‑on engineering role, not a downstream QA function. You’ll work closely with the software engineering team to define quality strategies, develop and maintain automated test suites, and perform thoughtful exploratory and manual testing. You will investigate defects, reproduce complex issues, help identify root causes, and work with developers to drive timely resolution. You will be instrumental in improving our quality processes, advocating for best practices, and fostering a culture where quality is a shared responsibility across the engineering organization.

About MapLarge

Since 2009, MapLarge’s rapidly growing software platform has enabled Fortune 1000 enterprises and government agencies to develop, scale, and deploy mission‑critical applications. Trusted by the world's most sophisticated organizations, our enterprise platform for geospatial analytics and visualization automates decision intelligence and offers a distinct decision advantage. We build cutting‑edge products for large enterprises and government agencies that appreciate innovation. If you enjoy working with talented teammates to solve complex challenges, we'd love for you to join us.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with software engineers and product managers throughout the development lifecycle to define test strategies and quality objectives
  • Perform exploratory and manual testing to validate new features, uncover edge cases, and evaluate the overall user experience
  • Investigate reported defects by reproducing issues, isolating failure conditions, and partnering with developers to identify root causes and verify fixes
  • Track and communicate quality metrics, testing progress, and release readiness to engineering stakeholders
  • Develop, and maintain automated test suites for functional, integration, regression, and end‑to‑end testing
  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and continuously improve test reliability, execution speed, and coverage
  • Identify opportunities to improve software quality, testability, observability, and engineering processes, and advocate for practical improvements
  • Develop and maintain test plans, test cases, and other quality documentation appropriate to the complexity of the product

Qualifications

  • Must reside in the continental US
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, software quality engineering, or software test automation
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. with no visa sponsorship required
  • Demonstrated experience designing and maintaining automated test frameworks and test infrastructure
  • Experience performing exploratory testing and systematically investigating complex software defects
  • Strong understanding of software development methodologies, testing strategies, and the software development lifecycle
  • Experience testing web applications, APIs, and distributed systems
  • Familiarity with CI/CD platforms and integrating automated testing into deployment pipelines
  • Experience using debugging tools, log analysis, and application monitoring to diagnose software issues
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, product, and support teams

Nice to Have

  • Experience with performance, load, or scalability testing
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Familiarity with security testing concepts and secure software development practices
  • Experience building test tooling, developer utilities, or internal quality platforms
  • Experience with Nunit and/or Playwright test development
  • Experience with devops processes and tooling
