Job summary

The Ohio State University Health System is seeking an experienced Outpatient Medical Coder 3 for remote work. The role involves coding outpatient records with ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4, abstracting data, and ensuring accurate MS-DRG/APR-DRG assignments.

Candidates should have RHIT/RHIA/CCS/COC credentials and 1+ year outpatient coding experience in service lines such as cancer, transplant, obstetrics, rehabilitation and cardiology.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include an Associate’s Degree in Health Information Management and a CAHIIM approved coding certificate or HIMT.
• Minimum of 1 year outpatient coding experience including cancer, transplant, obstetrics, rehabilitation and cardiology.
• For promotion, ability to code 3 of 5 outpatient locations (University Hospital, University Hospital East, James Cancer Hospital, Ross Heart Hospital, Dodd Rehabilitation Hospital).
• Credentialed RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or COC for outpatient coding.
• Maintain CE requirements per AHIMA or AAPC and score 90% on coding assessments.

Responsibilities

• Code outpatient medical records, selecting appropriate ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 codes.
• Abstract information and ensure accurate data for IHIS Resolute Billing system.
• Maintain productivity and quality standards and participate in regular coding education.
• Address edits during coding and abstracting process to ensure correct MS-DRG/APR-DRG assignments.
