Job summary

Samsara is hiring a Senior Software Engineer II to advance its Maps Services platform. You’ll design and implement cutting-edge infrastructure for layered map data, map tiles, routing, and geocoding, enabling smarter telematics for diverse customers.

You’ll collaborate with product, routing, safety, and engineering teams, driving scalable backend and frontend services, while mentoring others and upholding Samsara’s core principles.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of software engineering experience.
• Fullstack or backend development experience.
• Experience designing and architecting large, high-scale systems.
• Good communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to estimate and deliver milestones with the team.
• Ability to work in ambiguous environments and deliver customer value.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable maps infrastructure, editor and pipelines with product and safety teams.
• Own frontend and backend services that scale with fleet size.
• Collaborate with engineering manager and advocate for technical excellence.
• Navigate tradeoffs between speed and long-term reliability.
• Communicate work to engineering and product partners to close feedback loop.
• Embed Samsara’s principles to scale globally and across offices.
• Mentor junior engineers where possible.
