Job summary

Qualifications

• A total of 6-7 years of claims experience with a minimum of 2-4 years Senior Casualty role experience or equivalent complex casualty/litigation experience
• 1 year of Litigation experience
• Proficiency or ability to obtain proficiency in handling minor to complex litigated claims
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills
• Proficient in ability to work independently
• Strong decision-making ability
• Extensive understanding of statutory and regulatory requirements and civil procedure standards
• Ability to travel and work extended hours and/or weekends
• Proficient oral and written communication skills and ability to present complex facts to executive management
• Strong math skills, basic computer skills and ability to type at least 30 wpm
• HS/GED or a minimum of 3 years of casualty claims experience in P&C insurance

Responsibilities

• Completes analysis of claims, including loss facts and factors; creates discovery plan with depositions, IMEs and expert retention for simple to complex cases
• Interacts with defense counsel, provides direction and settlement authority
• Reviews liability, damages, coverage and risk to assess independent settlement authority up to $50,000
• Collaborates with defense counsel to plan strategy for negotiations and mediations
• Authorizes and monitors budget for outside counsel and analyzes defense expenses
• Prepares and presents litigated case recommendations to local and executive management
• Secures authority up to the highest levels for resolution
