Job summary

Fathom Management is looking for an experienced Senior Java Spring Boot Developer to design, modernize, migrate, and support scalable Java-based microservices and APIs in a modern cloud environment.

The successful candidate will bring strong hands-on Java development and Spring ecosystem expertise, with experience in building, deploying, and maintaining production-grade APIs. Collaboration across engineering, database, infrastructure, and security teams is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Five or more years of professional experience developing applications with Java, Spring Boot, and the Spring Batch framework.
• Strong hands-on proficiency with modern Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate, and REST API development.
• Demonstrated experience designing, building, deploying, and maintaining APIs in AWS cloud environments.
• Experience developing and supporting Java-based microservices and integrating distributed systems.
• Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, and AWS RDS.
• Strong understanding of database performance optimization, including query tuning, indexing, connection pooling, and caching.
• Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
• Experience with the RSpec testing framework, as specified in the role requirements.
• Familiarity with OAuth and application authentication and authorization concepts.
• Familiarity with Git for source control and collaborative development.
• Knowledge of secure coding practices, application security, and data protection.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Modernize legacy applications: migrate monolithic apps into scalable Java microservices.
• Lead API design and development: define API specs for REST and GraphQL.
• Develop production-grade software: write, test, and maintain core Java services.
• Lead database modernization: move to service-specific data layers while preserving data integrity.
• Optimize database performance: tuning, indexing, caching, and migrations.
• Deploy and operate cloud workloads: containerized apps on AWS with Docker/Kubernetes/Helm.
• Integrate APIs and services: reliable integrations with internal and external systems.
• Apply secure development practices: authentication, authorization, encryption, OAuth.
• Improve application reliability: monitor performance, troubleshoot issues, implement fixes.
• Promote AI-assisted development: using GitHub Copilot to support coding.
• Collaborate and provide technical leadership: work with teams on design patterns and challenges.
• Support quality and version control: testing frameworks, Git, and good release practices.
