Job summary

UnitedHealth Group seeks a Certified Sr. (IP) Acute Edits Medical Coder to work remotely from anywhere in the U.S. You will determine and record correct codes for treatments, ensuring documentation aligns with policies and guidelines.

You will provide feedback to physicians and maintain up-to-date coding knowledge under supervision of Coding Operations Management. The role requires inpatient ICD-10, DRG experience, and familiarity with MUE/NCCI; strong Excel and EMR skills are also expected.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Professional coder certification with AHIMA and/or AAPC maintained annually.
• 3+ years inpatient medical coding with ICD-10-CM/PCS & DRG.
• 2+ years with OCE, MUE and NCCI classification and reimbursement.
• Proficient in MS Excel and EMR systems.
• Experience in level I trauma center or teaching hospital with complex cases.

Responsibilities

• Identify ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS coding for inpatient services and DRG impact.
• Assign CPT/ICD-10 codes for outpatient surgery, observation, and ancillary services.
• Understand APC codes and perform chart review as needed.
• Provide coding feedback to physicians and query when appropriate.
• Maintain current coding knowledge via QM Manager and Coding Ops teams.
• Participate in department meetings and education events.
• Maintain records of coded, held, or missing charts.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
