Job summary

West Virginia University’s Shared Services Center is seeking a Remote Senior Corporate Grants Accountant to lead the Sponsored Projects Financial Management team. You will oversee grant accounting, billing, and reporting, mentoring staff, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and university regulations.

You’ll work with the general ledger, grants module, and related systems to deliver accurate financial data, coordinate policy implementation, and support external agencies and auditors.

Qualifications

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent computer skills with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe applications.
• Ability to analyze data, solve problems and provide useful reporting tools.
• Ability to prepare, manage and maintain budgets and financial reports and provide reconciliation reports among clustered accounts.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the various modules, from a functional perspective, and their integration within the overall financial and human resources administrative systems.
• Coordinate, develop and apply the systems, policy, and procedure to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Local research accounting standards.
• Structure the system to support external agencies' requirements (NSF, GASB, OMB) and implement revised standards.
• Serve as primary contact for academic colleges/schools and external agencies on sponsored research financial requirements.
• Review sponsored awards on closeout for compliance and prepare interim/final reports.
• Troubleshoot grants module issues and participate in system upgrades related to Oracle.
• Interface with HR, Payroll, PO, A/P, A/R, Cash Management, and General Ledger modules.
• Notify principal investigators of expenditure issues and ensure resolution and proper accounting.
• Train university personnel on sponsored research financial management and regulatory compliance.
• Lead a Grants Resource Specialist and participate in interviews/selection as needed.
• Produce reports from mainframe accounting system for sponsors and auditors.
• Support institutional processes with occasional evening and weekend hours.
