Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Remote SR Firmware Engineer II to design FPGA-based firmware in VHDL for space payloads. You will collaborate with hardware and software teams, perform synthesis and timing analysis, and develop FPGA IPs and AXI interfaces for radiation-hardened systems.

The role requires 8+ years in firmware/FPGA design, a Bachelors in a technical field, and deep experience with DDR4, Aurora, and Xilinx Versal architectures. Remote, contract position with quarterly travel.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in firmware engineering.
• 8+ years FPGA firmware design with VHDL.
• Bachelors degree in a technical discipline.
• Strong VHDL development, testing, and simulation.
• 3+ years hand-coded FPGA implementation.
• Experience with high-speed interfaces (DDR4, Aurora).
• Linux/Yocto familiarity for embedded development.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop FPGA firmware in VHDL for FPGA-based space payloads.
• Collaborate with hardware/software teams to refine requirements and interfaces.
• Perform synthesis, timing analysis, and validation of FPGA designs.
• Develop software interfaces for FPGA designs, including DMA-based transfers.
• Create and integrate FPGA IP cores with AXI-based interfaces.
• Support radiation environment mitigation and SEU/SEL analyses.
• Assist PCB design activities related to FPGA signals and layouts.
