Job summary

ALTEN Technology USA is seeking a Firmware Engineer to develop and maintain embedded software in modern C++. You will own features end-to-end, troubleshoot hardware interfaces, and work with systems, hardware, FPGA, and software teams across distributed sites.

The role requires 5+ years of firmware experience, strong C++, Linux, and Git skills, plus CI/testing involvement. Salary ranges from $120k to $140k, with potential for growth in a federal contractor environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• 5+ years of professional experience developing embedded or firmware software.
• Strong C++ programming skills including object-oriented design, memory management, concurrency, and maintaining production code.
• Hands-on experience with hardware interfaces, real-time systems, or resource-constrained embedded platforms.
• Experience with Linux-based development, Git, and build or container-based workflows.

Responsibilities

• Own firmware features or components from requirements to verification and defect resolution.
• Learn existing code and hardware interfaces; aid in cross-functional collaboration.
• Develop maintainable embedded software in modern C++ with good design and error handling.
• Collaborate with systems, hardware, FPGA, software, and architecture teams to clarify requirements and tradeoffs.
• Use debuggers, emulators, logs, and analyzers to isolate software/hardware issues.
• Create unit/integration tests and support CI to improve quality and coverage.
• Participate in design/code reviews and provide feedback.
• Plan and track work via user stories and communicate risks early.
• Follow quality processes and produce documentation for traceability.
• Work with globally distributed teams and contribute to design improvements.
