Job summary

BILL is building the trusted data backbone powering Finance, Product, and Go-to-Market. As a Staff Data Warehouse Engineer, you will architect end-to-end pipelines and warehouse architecture, delivering reliable data products and scalable solutions for executive reporting and planning.

You will partner with analytics, data science, and product teams to ensure robust integrations, simple patterns, and trustworthy datasets.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in data engineering or combined software/data engineering roles.
• Expert-level SQL and strong Python; production-grade applications beyond scripts.
• Deep knowledge of ETL/ELT design, ingestion methods, and orchestration (dbt, Airflow).
• Hands-on experience with modern lakehouse/warehouse platforms (Snowflake, Trino/Starburst).
• Experience in financial services and/or SaaS environments.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end delivery of pipelines and warehouse architecture for new builds, migrations, and re-platforming efforts.
• Administer and harden the data warehouse with schema design, performance tuning, and cost-aware optimization.
• Embed data quality and governance into pipelines with testing, documentation, and lineage.
• Translate ambiguous business requirements into clear technical designs and scope tradeoffs with cross-functional teams.
• Define and codify simple, stable engineering standards and patterns for the broader team.
• Mentor engineers through reviews and hands-on guidance to raise the technical bar.
• Evaluate tools and patterns to improve scale, reliability, or cost and justify decisions.
• Design the warehouse to be queryable by AI agents, with proper models, metadata, and skill files.
