Job summary

Chess.com is seeking an experienced data science leader to translate strategy into objectives and grow the team in a fully remote environment. You will drive high-impact data science across product data science and fair play, building models to detect cheating and improve the chess experience for players of all levels.

You will collaborate with product managers, engineers, designers, and writers to ship data-driven features and communicate insights to stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of data science experience with algorithms and models that shipped and delivered value.
• Strong Python and SQL skills; experience building data pipelines at scale (BigQuery/GCP or similar).
• Comfortable presenting findings to both technical peers and senior non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience mentoring or guiding other data scientists or analysts.

Responsibilities

• Own high-impact data science work across product data science and fair play; build novel algorithms and data-powered features.
• Partner with product managers, engineers, designers, and writers to translate stats into product decisions.
• Design and deploy heuristics and models to identify cheating at scale using statistical tools.
• Manage a lean team of data scientists; turn strategy into measurable objectives and mentor growth.
• Communicate early and often in a fully remote culture; surface blockers and keep stakeholders informed.
