Job summary

Coinbase seeks a Data Engineering Platform Engineer to join the Data Platform team. You will build abstractions, SDKs, and self-service apps enabling analysts and data scientists to manage pipelines with minimal platform knowledge.

You will design data security tooling, observability, and cross-functional data models, while collaborating with upstream and downstream teams to deliver robust, scalable data solutions.

Qualifications

• 7+ years experience in backend/data engineering or related field.
• Strong Python or Java backend development skills.
• Fluent SQL for ETL/ELT, data quality, and analysis.
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake, Databricks, or similar.
• General experience working with data systems or data pipelines.
• Working knowledge of git, Linux, and Docker.
• Airflow, BI, and AI tool experience.

Responsibilities

• Build clean software abstractions and modular components for thousands of pipelines as we scale.
• Build and maintain data integration and processing SDKs used by data teams and internal services.
• Design and build self-service apps for analysts and data scientists to manage pipelines.
• Build tooling for data security and observability: access controls, data quality, lineage, auditing.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to structure databases and expose good data APIs.
• Translate functional requests into reusable, scalable patterns.
