Job summary

Duluth Trading Company is seeking a Principal Data Platform Engineer to own the architecture, reliability, and evolution of the enterprise data platform spanning analytics, master data management, and AI readiness.

You will lead platform engineering, infrastructure as code with Terraform on GCP, and data governance across item/location domains while partnering with executives to align the roadmap with business needs.

Qualifications

• 15+ years IT experience with extensive data engineering and platform work.
• 5+ years in senior or lead roles.
• Expert-level SQL, Python for data engineering, and data modeling fundamentals.
• Deep expertise across modern data stack: GCP, BigQuery, dbt, Fivetran, Airbyte, Looker, Hex, and orchestration tools: Dagster, Airflow.
• Strong infrastructure-as-code background, particularly Terraform on GCP.
• Hands-on experience integrating AI capabilities into analytics platforms.
• Experience owning master data platforms (Pimcore or equivalent).
• Proven technical leadership and executive stakeholder partnership.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture and operations of the enterprise data platform (ingestion, transformation, warehousing, BI/serving).
• Manage cloud infrastructure as code using Terraform with version-controlled deployments.
• Implement monitoring, observability, and data quality frameworks across the platform.
• Own Pimcore MDM platform end-to-end as canonical source for item/location data.
• Define master data architecture standards and govern item/location data domains.
• Ensure master data flows between operational systems and analytics platform.
• Define and evolve data architecture roadmap with engineering leadership.
• Architect integration between Pimcore and BigQuery.
• Set standards for data modeling, pipeline design, and platform integration.
• Drive cost optimization and operational excellence.
