Job summary

COLSA is seeking a Senior Data Catalog & Metadata Specialist to support NASA's NCAPS contract for ACPO and DIISC. You will map data lineage, establish a shared catalog, and drive metadata adoption across the portfolio to make data easier to find, understand, and trust.

This fully remote role is open to U.S. residents and involves defining standards, onboarding datasets, and selecting an enterprise catalog tool (DataHub, Atlan, Collibra, Alation, Purview, or Amundsen) with Dagster integration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor level or higher in a technical field related to data science or engineering.
• 2–5 years in data librarianship, metadata, or data catalog roles.
• U.S. Citizenship and ability to undergo background checks for NASA trust.
• Hands-on experience with data catalogs or metadata platforms.

Responsibilities

• Catalog and describe datasets with clear, consistent records for findability.
• Build taxonomies, glossaries, metadata standards, and documentation.
• Set cataloging standards and ensure adoption across the team.
• Help analysts and engineers locate data, interpret provenance and limitations.
• Onboard new datasets, document provenance, ownership, sensitivity, and data quality concerns.
• Map end-to-end data lineage across sources, systems, and transformations.
• Evaluate and onboard an enterprise catalog tool (DataHub, Atlan, Collibra, Alation, Purview).
• Ensure integration with Dagster and track metadata completeness and freshness.
• Drive catalog adoption and be the go-to for data existence and usage guidance.
