Job summary

COLSA Corporation seeks a Senior Data Catalog & Metadata Specialist to support NASA ACPO/DIISC, making data across teams easier to find, understand, and trust by mapping lineage and standards. This fully remote role is open to US residents, excluding several states.

You will lead cataloging, glossary development, and metadata governance while coordinating with data engineers and program staff to ensure accurate provenance and usage. Strong communication and collaboration are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, data science, engineering, math, statistics, OR related field.
• 2–5+ years in data librarian, data curation, metadata, or catalog roles.
• U.S. Citizenship required; must be able to undergo a NASA Public Trust background check.
• Hands-on experience running a data catalog or metadata management platform.

Responsibilities

• Catalog and describe datasets with clear, searchable records.
• Build and maintain taxonomies, vocabularies, and a shared glossary.
• Set catalog and metadata standards and ensure adoption.
• Help analysts and engineers interpret data provenance and limitations.
• Onboard datasets, document provenance, and identify data quality concerns.
• Map data lineage, sources, owners, and transformations.
• Evaluate and onboard an enterprise catalog tool (DataHub, Atlan, Collibra, etc.).
• Ensure integration with data orchestration tools such as Dagster.
• Define and track metadata completeness and freshness metrics.
• Drive catalog adoption across teams.
