Job summary

AnaVation is seeking a Senior Cryptocurrency Engineer to lead blockchain analysis and digital asset investigations. You will guide technical direction, work with forensic SMEs, and build investigative tools to support complex cyber-enabled financial cases.

You will mentor others, plan technical goals, and shape analytic strategies while engaging with mission partners and investigators. Remote work is common with on-site visits to DC/Northern Virginia as needed.

Qualifications

5 years of experience in blockchain engineering, cryptocurrency forensics, digitalasset security, cyberenabled financial investigations, or related areas.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science, or related field.
Hands-on experience conducting cryptocurrency analyses in support of federal investigations and prosecutions.
Experience with blockchain analysis platforms (Chainalysis Reactor, TRM Labs, CipherTrace, or similar).
Proficiency with Solidity, EVM internals, and blockchain APIs.
Ability to conduct research using opensource intelligence, domestic/international databases, corporate filings, and investigative datasets.
Strong understanding of illicitfinance typologies, obfuscation and laundering mechanisms.
Clear written and verbal communication skills.
Strong attention to detail
Candidates must meet eligibility requirements for a TS/SCI clearance; DHS EOD suitability is required.

Responsibilities

Conduct blockchain analysis and cryptocurrency tracing across Bitcoin, EVM chains, privacy coins, DeFi platforms, and cross-chain ecosystems.
Develop algorithms and analytic workflows supporting seizure warrants, forensic audits, and financial-crime investigations.
Analyze smart contracts, Solidity bytecode, token behavior, and illicit finance patterns.
Perform cyber investigations using complex transaction flows and digital asset movement patterns.
Develop cyber-targets, including criminal networks, ransomware actors, and threat finance structures.
Evaluate emerging payment technologies and assess risk for exploitation or financing.
Research cybercrime methods, money-laundering typologies, and obfuscation techniques.
Provide analytical services to analyze cyber evidence, tools, services, and investigative tech.
Conduct cyberforensic acquisition, chain-of-custody, and digital evidence analysis.
Apply investigation techniques to gather, preserve, and present digital evidence for court.
Assist with open-source research, darkweb analysis, and intelligence-driven support.
Produce detailed investigative reports, analytics, visualizations, and finished intelligence.
Collaborate with multiple teams to support major federal investigations.
Research evolving blockchain technologies and cryptocriminal methodologies.
Develop and lead formal training events for government partners.
