Job summary

payabl. is hiring a Senior Backend Developer to join our Core Gateway team. You will extend a Perl-based payment gateway and build modern Python components to ensure high performance and scalability. The role requires strong English communication and the ability to refactor legacy systems within an Agile environment.

You will work with DevOps on CI/CD, Docker containers, and cloud deployments while contributing to a product-focused tech culture in a fully remote setup.

Qualifications

• 5+ years backend engineering experience with strong Python mastery (AsyncIO and FastAPI preferred).
• Experience with Perl (or willingness to learn).
• Polyglot engineers who can read and refactor legacy code.

Responsibilities

• Support and extend the existing Perl-based payment gateway during migration.
• Design, develop, and maintain Python server-side components for performance and scalability.
• Integrate third-party APIs and external payment services across legacy and modern layers.
• Maintain strong English communication to collaborate across departments in Agile sprints.
• Bring a product-focused mindset to understand business impact beyond code.
• Participate in code reviews and uphold high code quality; drive continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with DevOps on CI/CD, containerization, and cloud deployments.
