The Better Money Company is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to own systems that move real value: mint/burn flows, reserve accounting, reconciliation, settlement, and APIs. You will design, build, and operate core services and integrate with banks, custody providers, issuers, and blockchains.

Ideal candidates have 5–12 years in production backend roles with TypeScript/Node.js, PostgreSQL, and GCP, and can work in NYC in person five days per week with relocation options.

Qualifications

• 5–12 years of production backend engineering experience.
• Stack: TypeScript on Node.js, PostgreSQL, and GCP.
• Experience with high‑value transactional systems and API design.
• Ability to translate ambiguous requirements into technical solutions.
• Comfort working in New York City in person five days a week; relocation support available.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core backend services for mint/burn, settlement, and reconciliation.
• Integrate with banks, custody providers, stablecoin issuers, blockchains and partner APIs.
• Build durable audit trails and monitoring so money state is traceable.
• Design secure API surfaces and own runbooks and incident response for value‑moving services.
• Contribute to the payments API and internal/admin workflows for operations.
• Identify improvements that increase robustness beyond defined tickets.
