Job summary

eBay is seeking a Sr. Staff Backend Engineer (Sr. MTS) to lead complex initiatives for the new eBay Live platform. You will guide technical direction, own large functional areas, and ensure robust, scalable backend solutions for a fast-growing live shopping experience.

You will mentor teams, drive architecture decisions, and create ADRs to shape technical strategy while collaborating across domains to keep systems secure and future-proof. Remote-friendly role with competitive compensation.

Qualifications

10+ years of experience in building large-scale distributed web platforms/APIs with 5+ years as architect/technical lead responsible for end-to-end product scope across multiple domains.
Experience in creating and driving technical strategy and roadmap across multiple domains.
Architectural Decision Records (ADR) adoption to guide technical direction.

Responsibilities

Independently lead complex technical initiatives within and beyond your team.
Lead engineering support, release, and on-call responsibilities for an "always-on" 24/7 site.
Drive technical direction and roadmap across domain teams and guide others toward the right technical decisions.
Authors ADRs that serve as blueprint for solving technical problems and influence overall strategy.
Own one or more large functional areas with deep knowledge across domains.
