Responsibilities

• Define and drive backend and full-stack engineering direction, architecture, and technical excellence.
• Lead the development of scalable, reliable, and secure distributed systems for government customers.
• Serve as the technical authority for system architecture, data design, and engineering excellence.
• Design and implement modern service architectures, data pipelines, and infrastructure patterns for velocity and reliability.
• Deliver features and improvements to core services, including read/write paths for customer intake and screening.
• Collaborate with product managers to balance feasibility with business needs and make pragmatic trade-offs.
• Build and maintain shared libraries, service frameworks, and infrastructure patterns for consistency.
• Identify opportunities to modernize backend systems and own large-scale technical initiatives.
• Establish and champion engineering best practices: API design, data modeling, testing, observability, security, code quality.
• Mentor engineers at all levels on backend tech and distributed systems; develop backend pathways.
• Influence decisions across teams and advise on architecture and infrastructure initiatives.
• Work across the full stack when needed; backend is the primary focus, frontend/infrastructure support as needed.
