Job summary

Defense Unicorns is hiring a Software Engineer to own the assessment, hardening, testing, and modernization of a Government-provided SDN baseline. You'll work on a Navy Forward Deployed Engineering team to integrate code, ensure build/test readiness, and sustain software for Navy environments with DevSecOps practices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software-engineering experience.
• Proficiency in C++, Python and Bash scripting.
• Strong Linux fundamentals and networking knowledge.
• Experience with secure software development and remediation.
• Strong testing discipline across various testing levels.
• Familiarity with containers, CI/CD, and modern release practices.
• U.S. citizenship and ACTIVE US Government SECRET security clearance or higher.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical assessment of an SDN codebase, including architecture, build process, dependency management, runtime components, test coverage, and security posture.
• Design and implement secure, maintainable changes to remediate vulnerabilities and preserve traceability between upstream software and Government-owned code.
• Develop unit, integration, end-to-end, regression, and failure-mode tests for hardening and modernization.
• Institute AI-enabled tooling to enable hardening and maintenance of the SDN application.
• Debug complex behavior across application, Linux, and network boundaries including traffic flows and performance.
• Partner with platform engineers on container readiness, packaging, CI/CD, deployment workflows, and automated security scanning.
• Support lab validation, demonstrations, release acceptance, and durable regression fixes.
• Produce clear technical documentation and mentor other engineers.
