Job summary

Ryerson in Indianapolis is seeking a Sales Engineer to engage customers by phone and email, tailoring product solutions to meet their needs across Kentucky, Indiana and Western Michigan. You will interpret prints and CAD files, assess tolerances and materials, and help develop pricing templates while coordinating with internal and external teams to ensure quality and on-time delivery.

Strong math skills, geometry knowledge, and technical aptitude are valued; SAP experience and MS Office

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; engineering degree preferred.
• 1–3 years of sales experience in the metal industry.
• CAD/drafting experience a plus; print reading required; SAP experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and qualify customer‑provided documents such as prints, CAD files, and specifications
• Full understanding of tolerances, materials, specifications, and processing options that will guide a robust metal supply chain creation
• Manage part specific supply chains by utilizing internal and external processing assets to meet customer quality and delivery requirements
• Estimate material, labor, and delivery options on a part‑level basis and develop contract pricing templates based on awarded work
• Evaluating sales proposals to ensure they are technically accurate and consistent with the organization’s quality standards
• Conducting technical analysis of product configurations to determine customer‑specific prices
• All other duties as assigned
