Job summary

Forterra is seeking a Software Engineer to design, implement, test, and maintain safety-critical embedded software for autonomous ground vehicle platforms. This role collaborates with software, systems, test, and safety engineers across the full lifecycle, from requirements to verification.

You will work close to hardware, translating requirements into robust C/C++ code, and ensure safe, reliable operation across platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Three or more years of experience developing embedded or safety-critical software.
• Proficiency in C or C++ and working knowledge of Python or another scripting language.
• Experience with RTOS, embedded targets, or resource-constrained systems.
• Experience with Git, CMake, CI, code reviews, and related practices.
• Familiarity with MISRA C/C++ and static analysis, unit testing, and code coverage.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with clear written and verbal communication.
• Travel 10–25%.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain safety-critical embedded software for autonomous ground vehicle platforms.
• Translate requirements into readable, testable C/C++ code.
• Implement fault detection, diagnostics, and safe response behavior across vehicle platforms.
• Write unit, integration, and target-based tests; support verification and coverage analysis.
• Debug hardware, software, firmware, timing, and communication issues with logs and debuggers.
• Participate in architecture, design, code, and test plan reviews.
• Document implementation decisions, test results, and requirements traceability.
