Job summary

The Division of Forestry, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, seeks a Resource Assessment Program Supervisor in Grand Rapids, MN to manage RAP, including forest inventory, aerial photography, ground inventory, satellite imagery, and GIS analysis. The role also oversees the Guideline Monitoring and FIA programs, with telework eligibility on a part-time basis.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Forest Science/Management.
  • Five (5) years of professional experience in forest management or a closely related field with at least 2 years coordinating across multiple geographic areas.
  • Lead work experience including directing work, performance management, coaching, and resolving conflicts.
  • Ability to prepare and edit high-quality technical reports and management plans; interpret scientific literature.
  • Experience with budgeting and financial management; prioritize and manage a complex budget.
  • Ability to plan and administer forestry programs; develop schedules and manage resources.
  • Demonstrated project management skills to manage concurrent activities and teams.
  • Ability to analyze data, foresee trends, and balance long-term resource conservation with outcomes.
  • Strong communication skills to present complex concepts to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic policy and operational direction for the Resource Assessment Program (RAP).
  • Advocate RAP products and services to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and monitor RAP budgets to maintain staff and technology.
  • Perform supervising functions to develop and motivate staff.
  • Coordinate and administer Minnesota’s forest inventory programs including USFS FIA.
  • Develop and implement quality control procedures for RAP products and services.
  • Manage statewide program leaders such as GMP Consultant and State Biometrician.
