Job summary

Function Health is seeking a Research Scientist to build a multimodal, longitudinal health modeling platform within the Medical Intelligence Lab. You will forecast health trajectories from irregular data, integrating MRI, biomarkers, and patient-reported information.

You'll collaborate with ML engineers and clinicians, publish in top venues, and contribute to responsible ML in PHI-regulated environments, while enjoying remote-friendly, stock-enabled roles.

Qualifications

• PhD in machine learning, computer science, biomedical engineering or a related field with 1-2+ years of professional experience, or MS/BS with 5+ years building and evaluating ML models on real data.
• Demonstrated depth in temporal/longitudinal modelling, self-supervised or foundation-model pretraining on medical imaging, or multimodal fusion of imaging with tabular/EHR/biomarker data.
• Strong Python and PyTorch; experience training at scale and writing reusable code.
• Rigorous evaluation instincts: calibration, error analysis, and robust validation.

Responsibilities

• Design and train models forecasting a member’s next health state from irregular histories with calibrated uncertainty.
• Develop encoders unifying medical data into a robust multimodal representation.
• Build evaluation frameworks with validation sets, confidence intervals, and benchmarking.
