Job summary

Balchem is seeking a Research Scientist for the R&D Group based in New Hampton, NY (Temp) / Montvale, NJ (Perm). You will tackle diverse projects, focusing on new product development and bridging lab work to pilot plant and commercial scale.

You’ll apply DOE and fundamental knowledge of Balchem’s technology (microencapsulation, spray-drying, end-use nutrients) to push breakthroughs and publish findings as needed.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Material Science or Food Science with 4+ years of experience or an MS/PhD with corresponding experience.
• Demonstrated safety champion mindset and ability to ensure safe R&D work with hazard reviews, SOPs and PPE.
• Experience with bench chemistry and material characterization techniques.
• Strong analytical skills and experience with DOE.
• Track record of technical execution, publication or patents.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on support to lab and pilot plant operations, including extrusion, granulation, and fluidized bed processes.
• Develop formulations and improve existing products using chemistry expertise.
• Lead projects from ideation to scale‑up, interfacing with multiple teams.
• Review literature and patent literature to identify new tech developments.
• Publish articles and contribute to patent filings as appropriate.
