Hawaiʻi Island Community Health Center (HICHC) is seeking a Referrals Specialist to join our team in a remote role. The position supports timely access to specialty care by coordinating referrals, authorizations, medical records, and follow-up with patients, providers, and external partners.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum one year of related clinical office experience.
• Experience with QUEST, health insurance programs and ICD-10/CPT coding is preferred.
• Ability to work with diverse populations in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate patient referrals, authorizations, and follow-up appointments.
• Maintain accurate electronic medical records and referral tracking systems.
• Communicate with providers, patients, and outside healthcare organizations to support patient care.
• Assist with travel authorizations and arrangements for eligible patients.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and organizational policies.
• Provide excellent customer service and support to patients and families.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and collaborate with the patient care team.
