Job summary

The Cuyahoga County Board of Health is seeking a Communicable Disease Investigator to join our Epidemiology team in Parma, OH. The role reports to the Epidemiology Supervisor and starts on a full-time bargaining basis with a starting salary of $50,420 per year. Typical hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.

to 4:30 p.m., with opportunities for occasional after-hours coverage during outbreaks. Responsibilities include disease surveillance, outbreak investigations, data analysis in ODRS, and

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, environmental health, nursing, or public health; includes epidemiology course.
• Graduate-level epidemiology coursework required annually.
• Completion of a 'Principals of Epidemiology' course within first six months.
• Two years of public health experience (with Bachelor's) or Master’s without experience.
• Valid driver’s license and insurance.
• Strong Excel proficiency and data reporting skills.
• Proficiency with databases and data querying.
• Statistical aptitude for analysis.

Responsibilities

• Investigates reportable infectious diseases per Ohio guidelines.
• Monitors surveillance systems and detects disease trends.
• Coordinates and assists with outbreaks and contacts healthcare providers.
• Collects and analyzes data for quarterly/annual reports.
• Responds to public inquiries and educates institutions on outbreak procedures.
• Interviews infected individuals to determine transmission sources.
• Performs basic statistical analyses (univariate, bi-variate, stratified).
• Manages Health Alert Network guidelines and SOPs.
• Develops and extracts reports for internal/external customers.
• May operate agency fleet vehicles as needed.
