Job summary

Public Library of Science is seeking an Associate Editor for PLOS One Public Health and Epidemiology on a 2-year full-time contract. The role is fully remote with eligibility from the UK and US states (FL, IL, MA, MD, NY, PA, TX, VA).

The Associate Editor will oversee manuscript editorial processes, apply internal guidelines, and work with cross-functional teams to promote and develop journals. Postgraduate degree required; PhD/MD preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience in a research environment, publishing, or related field.
• Highly organized with strong critical assessment and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining quality and accuracy.
• Ability to set priorities and work independently.
• Postgraduate degree required; PhD/MD preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as escalation point for complex editorial queries.
• Support editorial teams to uphold high standards of rigor and integrity.
• Evaluate submissions and decisions based on reviewers' comments.
• Participate in developing editorial policy and visibility of journals.
• Build relationships with academic community.
