Job summary

The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia is seeking a remote Coding Quality Specialist 2 to support orthopedic and musculoskeletal services. The role focuses on accurate professional fee coding, ensuring compliance with CPT/ICD-10-CM, payer requirements, and documentation standards.

You will work with providers and teams to improve accuracy and reimbursements. Ideal candidates have CPC certification, at least 2 years of coding experience, and comfort with Epic and EncoderPro to review

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
• Experience: 2+ years of relevant coding experience required.
• Licensure: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required.

Responsibilities

• Independently code E/M visits and minor procedures for musculoskeletal specialties.
• Apply CPT, ICD-10-CM, modifiers, NCCI edits, and global surgery rules.
• Review docs for foot/ankle disorders, wounds, arthritis, rheumatology, injections.
• Evaluate diagnosis specificity, laterality, anatomy, medical necessity.
• Identify documentation gaps and when to query providers.
• Distinguish planned vs performed services for accuracy.
• Charge review in Epic and EncoderPro.
• Apply guidance from CPT, ICD-10-CM, LCD/NCD and payer policies.
• Collaborate with physicians and teams to improve coding quality.
• Support continuous improvement in accuracy and education.
