Job summary

STEP's College Prep and Leadership Program in the Phoenix area seeks an engaged team member to work with high-achieving, low-income, first-generation students and their families. The role focuses on organizing workshops, guiding students through the college process, and building resources to support success.

You will coordinate outreach to high schools, communicate with parents about financial aid, and help grow the program in a sustainable way, while occasionally traveling to Tucson.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Experience in teaching, counseling, and/or mentoring students.
• Excellent computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Classroom and Drive, Zoom.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills.
• Efficient, self-motivated, and independent worker.
• Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time and stay organized.
• Highly Preferred: Fluency in Spanish (reading, writing, speaking).
• Preferred: Experience working with high school students or in college admissions.

Responsibilities

• Organize and co-lead STEP's monthly college-prep workshops.
• Individually advise students throughout the college preparation and application process from sophomore through senior year.
• Outreach to high-school students and counselors.
• Communicate with and educate parents on the financial aid process.
• Research and develop student/alumni resources.
• Support the growth and improvement of the program in an innovative and sustainable manner.
• Work with students and parents to ensure full participation in workshops and overall program.
• Obtain admissions and financial aid information from targeted colleges.
• Help coordinate admission visits and meetings.
• Cultivate contacts at high schools for outreach to and recruitment of prospective, qualified students.
• Arrange and give outreach presentations at high schools.
• Provide application material and instructions to students, teachers, counselors, and school administrators.
• Review student applications to STEP and conduct student interviews.
• Assist with travel coordination for summer programs.
• Keep and update electronic records of student grades, attendance, homework completion, contact info., etc.
• Create and utilize documents and forms within the Google suite.
• Support year-round program projects as needed, including test prep courses and writing workshops.
• Represent STEP at events in Phoenix and Tucson.
